MOSCOW — Russia has signed a $100 million contract to construct an
oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia.
Industry sources said Stroytransgaz, a subsidiary of Russia's Gazprom,
signed the contract with Saudi Aramco on March 30 in the Saudi city of
Dhahran. They said the pipeline would span 360 kilometers and construction
would begin in June 2007.
Saudi Aramco has confirmed the contract. Aramco vice president Ali Al
Ajmi said his company contracted Stroytransgaz for its expertise and
advanced technology, Middle East Newsline reported.
The sources said the pipeline was expected to be completed in 18 months.
They said the facility would connect Sheiba to Abqaiq and cut through Rub Al
Khali, or Empty Quarter.
