CAIRO — Libyan ruler, in what could mark policy, has warned his
nation against the entry of Western oil contractors.
Libyan ruler Moammar Khaddafy indicated that Tripoli would tighten
restrictions on contracts to foreign oil companies, Middle East Newsline reported. Khaddafy said Western
firm were seeking to control Libya. Oil exports constitute 95 percent of
revenues.
"You must watch out for colonial forces that spy on us and aim to steal
our riches," Khaddafy said on March 1. "The colonialist should be aware that
he will not realize his aims in Libya."
Khaddafy's warning came amid Libya's energy exploration program. So far,
Libya, which intends to increase production from the current 1.6 million to
three million barrels of oil per day, has held three rounds of tenders amid
intense bidding and decreasing company profitability.
