LONDON — Libya has signed an energy agreement with Japan.
The two countries have signed a memorandum of understanding that would
enable the state-owned Japan Oil, Gas & Metals National Corp. to participate
in Libyan crude oil and natural gas
exploration and development. The MoU called for the establishment of joint
projects and exchange of information, Middle East Newsline reported.
Libya has sought to double its crude oil output to more than three
million barrels per day over the next two years. The government in
Tripoli has retained U.S. and other Western firms for exploration and
development.
A recent statement by the Japanese company said the two sides would draft
a series of proposals. No details were reported.
