ABU DHABI — Kuwait's huge oil sector has again been struck by a
mysterious blaze that reduced capacity.
On Thursday, a fire erupted in a Kuwaiti refinery that led to a
reduction of at least two percent in refined oil. The blaze took place in
the Shueiba refinery, the smallest of Kuwait's three facilities and which
produces 200,000 barrels of oil a day.
Officials said the production cut in the southern refinery could take
several days. They said the fire was reported in the gas flashline and
extinguished within an hour.
This was the second fire in Shueiba in less than three months. The first
fire was in November 2006 and led to two weeks of reduced production.
