NICOSIA — Israeli and Lebanese troops have been at risk of a confrontation along their joint border.

The two armies were said to be on alert along the Israeli-Lebanese border during shooting incidents last week. Israel and Lebanese troops were within meters of each other.

Lebanon's National News Agency said Israeli troops pointed their weapons toward a Lebanese Army patrol, Middle East Newsline reported. Nobody was injured and the Israeli troops withdrew from the border fence.

The Lebanese agency said this was the third confrontation between Israel and Lebanon in February.

United Nations peace-keepers brought bulldozers to separate Israeli and Lebanese troops.

On Feb. 22, Lebanese Army units fired anti-aircraft batteries toward Israel Air Force fighter-jets over southern Lebanon and Beirut. No aircraft were struck.

Lebanese security forces were also on alert in Beirut. On Feb. 23, police found 19 sticks of TNT in a Christian area of Beirut. Later, police found 13 detonators and eight bombs.
