LONDON — Japan has agreed to develop an Iranian oil field.
Japan's Inpex intends to begin work on the Azadegan oil field in 2006,
industry sources said. The contract was signed in 2004, but delayed amid
U.S. opposition to foreign energy projects in Iran.
The Japanese daily Asahi Shimbun daily said Tokyo has approved the Impex
project, Middle East Newsline reported. The newspaper said the government has assessed that Iran had been
prepared to replace the Japanese company with other foreign firms.
The sources said Inpex plans to spend 40 months to develop Azadegan.
They said oil production at the field would reach 260,000 barrels daily by
2014.
