ABU DHABI — The U.S. Navy has resumed command of a Gulf task force.
The navy assumed command of Combined Task Force 152. The task force,
based in Bahrain, has been responsible for conducting maritime security
operations in the central and southern Gulf.
In a Dec. 3 ceremony, U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Allen Myers succeeded Italian
Navy Rear Adm. Emilio Foltzer as CTF 152 commander, Middle East Newsline reported. In June 2006, the
Italian Navy assumed command of CTF 152, the first time a country other than
the United States headed the task force.
The task force has sought to include Gulf Cooperation Council navies in
regional security. The force was organized to ensure the flow of commercial
shipping through the Gulf.
