SPECIAL TO WORLD TRIBUNE.COM
Wednesday, March 16, 2005
The following excerpts are from an early February hearing before the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee in reference to an article by LTC Tim Ryan, "Media's coverage has distorted world's view of Iraqi reality".
SEN. WARNER: General Myers, you looked as if you wanted to add –
GEN. MYERS: Well, I'm just very sympathetic to what Senator
Inhofe said. I have a chance to speak at many different forums around
this country, and I always tell them that you'd be better off if you
could just beam in one soldier, sailor, airman and Marine that's over
there in Iraq or Afghanistan – if you could just beam them in, pick a
Social Security number at random and ask them to come appear and tell
you what they think, and you'll get it straight and you'll be proud of
their understanding of the problem and their devotion to the mission.
And so I just identify myself with those remarks, and I think that's
absolutely right.
SEN. WARNER: Thank you, General.
Senator Reed.
MR. WOLFOWITZ: And you CAN beam them in. You can go to – I
think it's WorldTribune.com for that particular account. And I found
a lot of valuable information that's not in our main news media, both
from Americans in Iraq and from Iraqis in Iraq, that appears on these
websites. It's a fascinating phenomenon, and I quoted two of them in
my statement.
