Iran begins drilling in 16 new fields

Iran has launched a program to develop 16 new oil fields.
The project was meant to increase Iran's oil output by 162,000 barrels
per day.
Officials said the state-owned National Iranian Oil Co. begin drilling
its first well in the Serkan field on Nov. 7, Middle East Newsline reported. They said all 16 wells in
Serkan would be completed in 2008 in a $760 million project.
Officials said the first phase of the project would drill wells at
Cheshmeh-Khosh, Serkan and Maleh Kouh fields in a $20 million project.
Another project being prepared for launch was the construction of six
gas injection stations and eight oil pumping stations. Officials said Iran
also planned to lay 9,280 kilometers of pipelines.
