Iran wants to export natural gas to Ukraine via a
pipeline.
The two countries have discussed the gas pipeline project during a
meeting in Kiev on Sunday. The discussions took place during the visit by
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hadi Nejad Hosseinian to Ukraine.
Under the proposal, Iran would send 15 billion cubic meters of gas a
year to Ukraine via the pipeline, Middle East Newsline reported. Two routes were being considered. One
would be a route through the Black Sea and avoid Russia, while the other
would
include Armenia, Georgia and Russia.
Officials said representatives from Iran and Ukraine would meet in
Teheran in May 2005 to discuss the financing and construction of the
project. Then, Kiev and Teheran would make the final decision.
