Senior Hamas official killed in feud

GAZA CITY — A senior Hamas operative has been killed in a feud in the
Gaza Strip that has claimed the lives of six people.
Palestinian sources said Salah Masri, head of Hamas's Reconciliation
Committee, was killed in a gun battle on Dec. 1 in the northern town of Beit
Hanoun. Masri played a major role in liasion and community affairs for
Hamas, which has taken over large parts of the Gaza Strip.
Masri, 45, was killed as part of a battle between two Palestinian
families in Beit Hanoun. He was buried on Dec. 3 in a funeral that sparked
renewed fighting hours later.
On Dec. 7, another Palestinian was killed a battle between the two
families. PA security forces were sent to stop the fighting.
Interior Minister Nasser Yusef has appealed for calm. Yusef has called
on Palestinians to help police stop the spread of illegal weapons throughout
the Gaza Strip and West Bank.
