MOSCOW — Russia has been selected to head two natural gas projects
in
Syria.
Russia's Stroitransgaz has been awarded two gas projects in Syria. The
contract includes the construction of a natural gas processing plant and the
laying of gas pipeline.
Industry sources said Stroitransgaz, a unit of Russia's state-owned OAO
Gazprom, would design and lay a 300-kilometer section of gas pipeline from
the Syrian-Jordan border to Rayan, Middle East Newsline reported. This contract was reported at $160
million.
The second award called for Stroitransgaz to construct a gas processing
plant near Palmyra. The sources said this contract was worth about $200
million.
Both projects were expected to be concluded by 2008.
