ISRAEL KILLS PFLP COMMANDER IN GAZA
GAZA CITY Ñ Israel's military has killed a leading Palestinian
insurgent in the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian sources said Israeli troops killed Ashraf Abu Labda,
commander of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in the
southern Gaza city of Rafah. Abu Labda was killed during an Israeli raid of
Rafah on Sunday.
"The occupation forces stormed ¹the ¹Al Salam area in Rafah surrounding
the house of Abu Labda and hurling ¹ ¹hand-grenades through the windows.," a
statement by the PFLP's military wing said. "Abu Labda returned the fire
causing many injuries among the Israeli forces ¹¹before he was killed."
Israeli military sources confirmed the raid in Rafah, but did not report
any casualties. Palestinian sources said 18 people were injured in the
Israeli air and armored operation.
In 2001, Israel's military assassinated PFLP secretary-general Abu Ali
Mustafa in a missile attack in Ramallah. The
Gaza-based Palestinian Center for Human Rights said the Israeli targeting of
Palestinian insurgents resulted in the death of 190 people since 2001. The
center said another 133 people bystanders were killed.
