In an effort to stop corruption, China's Communist Party last week published a list of banned activities for party members. The banned activities include a prohibition on keeping mistresses and gambling.
The 178 items on the list were published in the party organ, People's Daily newspaper.
Party members are prohibited from opposing Marxism, Leninism, Maoism, and Deng Xiaoping thought as a way to enforce conformity with communist ideology.
Party cadres also are barred from such criminal activity as taking bribes, extortion and economic crimes.
Other taboo activities include patronizing prostitutes, using illegal drugs or joining religious or cult-like groups.
Party members can be punished for infringing on the rights of others, violating or interfering with election rights, opening mail illegally or interfering with the rights of marriage.
It is the first time the communist party openly published rules governing its estimated 60 million members.
