Tunisian Interior Minister Hadi Muhani said his government seeks to improve security ties with all Arab League states. Muhani also invited non-Arab governments to join the counter-insurgency dialogue.

This is the first time the two sets of ministers will meet. In 1999, Arab interior ministers met their counterparts at the Justice Ministry to plan a joint effort against terrorism.

In Algeria, the military has launched a new offensive against Islamic insurgents. So far, 10 suspected insurgents were killed in raids in western Algeria over the last four days.

The offensive was prompted by Islamic attacks on Algerian soldiers and civilians since the beginning of the new year. About 80 people were killed in the Islamic attacks, attributed to the Armed Islamic Group and the Salafist Brigade for Combat and Call.
