RAMALLAH Ñ Palestinian opposition groups have concluded that the
Palestinian Authority is rife with collaborators who are relaying
information used for Israel's assassination policy against insurgency
leaders.
Opposition sources said several groups active in the nearly year-old war
have investigated the recent Israeli assassination of Islamic and other
insurgency leaders. They said they have concluded that Israeli agents
received information of the whereabouts of the targets from PA police
officers and security agents.
A Palestinian group claimed responsibility for the killing Sunday of
a PA intelligence officer. The unknown group said the officer was passing
information to Israel regarding the location of a range of Palestinian
combatants.
Col. Tayser Khatab, 52, was described as a deputy to PA General
Intelligence chief Amin Hindi. The Martyr Bilal Al-Ghoul Group claimed
credit for bombing Khatab's car.
"Khatab served the Zionist enemy for many years and arrested Palestinian
warriors," the group said in a statement.
Palestinian sources said Khatab attended PA meetings with the CIA and
Israel.
Palestinian insurgents aligned with Arafat have targeted those believed
to be close to Israel. On Sunday, a Christian leader in the Bethlehem suburb
of Bet Jallah was shot and seriously injured.
In Hebron, two Palestinians were killed on Sunday in gun battles with
Israeli troops. In Jerusalem, four bombs exploded in the city on Monday. No
injuries were reported. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine
claimed responsibility.
