TEL AVIV Ñ Israel has been rocked by a spate of deadly bombings.

In one bombing, three Israelis were killed on Sunday when a Palestinian blew himself up at a train station in the northern city of Nahariya. The suicide bomber was killed and another 40 Israelis were injured.

The Palestinian was said to have infiltrated from Lebanon.

More than two hours later, two bombs exploded further south at Beit Lid near Netanya. The junction is often packed with soldiers waiting for a hitch.

At least one person was killed. Israeli sources said the dead person was a suicide bomber. The bomber was said to have been in a car that exploded. The car contained two mortar shells that failed to explode.

Israeli military sources blamed Palestinian Authority for the bombings.

They said PA Chairman Yasser Arafat has encouraged Islamic militants to bomb Israeli targets.

In a Palestinian ambush in the Jordan Valley, two Israelis in a schoolbus were killed by semi-automatic fire. The schoolbus full of teachers was attacked by a passing car.

In retaliation, Israeli attack helicopters fired missiles at PA security agencies in the Kalandia refugee camp north of Jerusalem as well as in El Bireh and Jericho.
