TEL AVIV — Israel has warned that it will not tolerate Hizbullah
attacks along the Jewish state's border with Lebanon.
The warning was relayed in wake of a Hizbullah missile attack on an
Israeli tank over the weekend. Hizbullah fired two missiles at an Israeli
tank deployed in the disputed Shebaa region. An Israeli commander was killed
when a missile struck the front of his tank.
Foreign Minister Shimon Peres called on the Bush administration and
United Nations secretary-general Kofi Annan to order Lebanon to immediately
stop Hizbullah attacks. Peres said Lebanon must assume responsibility for
the attack.
Israeli warplanes attacked suspected Hizbullah targets after Saturday's
missile attack. Israeli artillery also pounded suspected Hizbullah
positions.
In Israel, two bombs exploded in the city of Kfar Saba, situated next to
Kalkilya on the West Bank. One Israeli was severely injured in the bombings
on Saturday night.
Israeli authorities said the bombings appeared to be the work of
Palestinian attackers.
Palestinians said 46 people were injured in a clash with Israeli troops
near the Egyptian border with the Gaza Strip. This, as a bodyguard of Hamas
leader Ahmed Yassin was killed as he was preparing a bomb in his apartment
in Gaza City.
