RAMALLAH — The Palestinian Authority has been struck by a cut-off in telephone service.

The reason: PA ministries have failed to pay their telephone bills to the Palestinian Telecommunications company. The bill amounts to several million dollars.

PA sources said several ministries haven't paid their bills in more than a year. After numerous appeals for payment, the sources said, the utility ended service.

The sources said the following ministries have been left without service: the Interior Ministry, the Planning and International Cooperation Ministry, the Sports and Youth Ministry and several state agencies.

The PA Finance Ministry has allocated funds for telephone service. But the sources said the funds could not cover the debt to the utility.
