RAMALLAH -- A Palestinian press freedom activist, who also wrote for Middle East Newsline and World Tribune.com, has been released from prison by the Palestinian Authority.

The PA freed Mohammed Najib, 31, head of the Ramallah-based Free Voice, on Friday. PA agents kept Najib's identity card but allowed him to return home.

"This is a very worrisome situation," Najib said on Sunday. "What happened to me could happen to any journalist."

Najib said he was asked about his reporting as well as his role at the Free Voice, which defends the rights of journalists in the PA. He said during his two days in jail he was forced to stand on one leg with his hands above his head. "I knew they wanted to humiliate me," he said.
