LONDON — A Hizbullah agent has been arrested in Paraguay on his way
to bomb Israeli targets.
Reports from the capital of Asuncion said Paraguay's counterterrorism
agency arrested last week Salah Yassin. Yassin, a Lebanese national, was
identified as an agent of the Hizbullah as well as the nephew of Hamas
leader Ahmed Yassin.
Yassin was said to have planned attacks against Israeli installations,
including the embassy in Asuncion.
The reports said Yassin was arrested on Thursday in the area near the
border with Argentina and Brazil. They said Yassin also worked for Hamas and
Islamic Jihad.
Earlier this year, another Hizbullah squad was reported to have been
arrested in the tri-border area. The squad was linked to the bombings of the
Israeli embassy and Jewish community center in Buenos Aires in the early
1990s.
