The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that some 200 missiles fired by Iran at Israel on Tuesday were shot down by Israel’s Iron Dome and Arrow missile defense systems.
Israel’s ambulance service reported no injuries from the Iranian missile attack.
The Israeli military vowed that there “will be repercussions for this attack.”
Joe Biden reportedly ordered the U.S. military to “aid Israel’s defense” and shoot down Iranian missiles.
Iran made a “big mistake tonight and will pay for it,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the opening of the security cabinet meeting in Jerusalem.
The strike on Israel earlier in the evening “failed,” he says.
“It was thwarted thanks to Israel’s air defense system, which is the most advanced in the world,” the prime minister said, thanking the United States for its support as well.
“The regime in Iran does not understand our determination to defend ourselves and our determination to retaliate against our enemies,” said Netanyahu. “[Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar and [top Hamas military commander Mohammed] Deif did not understand this, [Hizbullah leader Hassan] Nasrallah and [Hizbullah chief of staff Fuad] Shukr did not understand this, and there are probably those in Teheran who do not understand this.”

“They will understand,” Netanyahu added, stressing that “whoever attacks us — we will attack him.”
The attack on Israel comes just hours after the IDF launched a ground invasion of southern Lebanon to carry out raids against Iranian-backed Hizbullah terrorists.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) threatened to carry out “crushing attacks” against Israel if it retaliated after Tuesday’s missile attack.
“If the Zionist regime reacts to Iranian operations, it will face crushing attacks,” the IRGC said in a statement carried by Iranian news agency Fars.
The IRGC added: “In response to the martyrdom of (Hamas leader) Ismail Haniyeh, (Hizbullah leader) Hassan Nasrallah and (IRGC commander) Nilforoshan, we targeted the heart of the occupied territories.”
Meanwhile, seven people were killed and 17 others were wounded in a terrorist attack in the city of Jaffa in central Israel on Tuesday, emergency services reported. One of those killed is a 17-year-old girl.
According to police, one of the terrorists was armed with a rifle and the other with a knife, and they attacked light rail passengers and passers-by near the station on Jaffa’s Jerusalem Boulevard.
Police say that the two terrorists, later identified as Muhammad Khalef Saher Rajab and Hassan Muhammad Hassan Tamimi, were both in their 20s and from the city of Hebron in the West Bank. They did not have a permit to be in Israel. At least one of them was shot dead by a passerby and a municipal security guard.
