Xi Jinping’s Chinese Communist Party regime did not care for a tweet by Democrat front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Clinton, seeking her party’s 2016 presidential nomination, tweeted on Sept. 27: “Xi hosting a meeting on women’s rights at the UN while persecuting feminists? Shameless.”

An editorial in the Global Times responded by comparing Clinton to Republican candidate Donald Trump, who the paper called a “demagogue” whose fame and front-runner status are based on his “big mouth.”

“It seems that Hillary, eager to keep a competitive edge in the game, has also resorted to these ignominious shenanigans,” the editorial said.

Clinton’s tweet was referencing the cases of five Chinese women activists who were detained in March for campaigning against sexual harassment on public transport.

China detained the five women for a month. According to authorities, they are still regarded as criminal suspects and police have said restrictions on their movements will remain in place until next year.

“The U.S. presidential election has resulted in an increasing number of ill consequences when democracy spins out of control. Policies, guidelines and public interests will have to make room for political chicanery that can incite the voters, by whose support the candidates can succeed to the throne. China-bashing has become an effective way for them to win more votes.”
