Xi dismays Red Capitalists: Communism still China’s ultimate ‘goal’

President Xi Jinping has shocked even pro-establishment academics and businessmen by openly calling on officials to “attain the goal of Communism.”

Xi’s exhortation came in the form of an address he made earlier this year to county-level cadres who were attending courses at the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Central Party School. The speech was only published last month by the official media.

“We should not think that Communism is ethereal and unattainable,” Xi said. “The reason why we are developing socialism with Chinese characteristics is to diligently work toward [the realization of] Communism.”

Xi’s remarks have made a mockery of the pledges he made while visiting the United States that pro-market reforms were on track and that the Chinese economy would continue the path of integration with the international marketplace.
