The Obama administration called a double suicide bombing in Beirut that killed 45 people on Nov. 12 a “horrific terrorist” act, while Iranian terror proxy Hizbullah vowed revenge for the bombings that killed one of its senior leaders.

“Such acts of terror only reinforce our commitment to support the institutions of the Lebanese state, including the security services, to ensure a stable, sovereign, and secure Lebanon,” U.S. National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said, according to AFP.

The twin blasts took place minutes apart in Beirut’s Ain el Sikkeh area, near the Burj el-Barajneh Palestinian refugee camp which is a Hizbullah stronghold. Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the attacks, which killed 45 and wounded some 200.

Hizbullah said one of its top security officials, Hajj Hussein Yaari (Abu Murdata), was killed in the bombings.

Hajj Hussein Khalil, a senior aide to Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah, said “this is a crime against humanity. Those who committed it are monsters, not humans.”

ISIL called the attack “a quality operation in the heart of a Hizbullah stronghold,” adding “the heretics must know that they do not threaten us.”

Hizbullah is considered to be one of the first terrorist organizations to use tactical suicide bombings, beginning a long series of attacks in the early 1980s.
