U.S. continues to make nice with Iran – and Iran is having none of it

Though Iran constantly defies the U.S. with new missile tests, humiliated U.S. sailors earlier this year and regards America as its No. 1 enemy, the smitten Obama administration is continuing its courtship of the Islamic republic.

While Iran ramped up its harsh rhetoric last week, first lady Michelle Obama hosted a traditional Iranian new year’s feast at the White House.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, meanwhile, vowed that the Obama administration was open to a “new arrangement” with the world’s top sponsor of terrorism pertaining to Teheran’s active and advancing missile program.

Iran’s response to all of the White House’s super terrific overtures: We will never negotiate over our missile program – and the United States is still the “Great Satan.”

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said as much on April 10, insisting Iran’s missile program and military capabilities are not open to negotiations, Xinhua reported.

Zarif even sought to further open old wounds, saying the United States would do better “to reconsider the sales of weapons to some countries which use them against the Yemenis and the Palestinians.”

Back at the White House, the first lady said during the Nowruz ceremony (a widely-celebrated holiday in Iran) that “it is so important to remember that our diversity has been and will always be our greatest source of strength and pride here in the United States. We think America is strongest when we recognize our many traditions, when we celebrate our diversity and when we lift each other up.”

The Obamas first hosted Nowruz last year during negotiations over the Iran nuclear deal in which, critics say, President Barack Obama caved in to pretty much all of Iran’s demands.

“We have a lot to reflect upon since last year’s Nowruz,” said the first lady. “The dreams and aspiration we all share as Americans and as human beings, I think we can have even higher hopes for peace and prosperity in the years to come.”
