CAIRO — A Western contractor has expanded its search for energy in
Egypt’s Faghur basin.

A leading U.S. contractor has reported the development of a crude oil
reserve in the Western Desert. Apache Corp., based in Houston, Texas, said
its Tayim South 1-X well flowed at a rate of 8,196 barrels of oil per day.

Tayim has been the latest in a series of discoveries in the Faghur basin.

“The Tayim South discovery is located along a prominent east-west fault
trend that stretches nearly 25 miles, all within Apache-operated concession
boundaries, and includes productive intervals in the AEB, Safa and Paleozoic
formations,” Apache Egypt vice president Tom Voytovich said.

Apache said 11 of its 13 exploratory tests in 2011 resulted in
discovery. Voytovich said his company was planning another five additional tests by
2012.
