Earlier reports said Israeli strikes targeted an attempted weapons shipment and a Scud missile site last week, also in the Qalamoun Mountains.

The area is a hotbed of arms smuggling activity supplying the Iran-backed Hizbullah forces.

The Israeli officials denied involvement in the airstrikes and said the explosions resulted from ongoing rebel fighting.

Al Jazeera reported the Sunday strikes hours Israeli forces killed terrorists planting explosives on the Golan Heights border.

“Iran continues to try and arm Hizbullah, even in these very days, and it hopes to equip the Lebanese terrorist organization with advanced and precise weapons,” said Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon .

“We won’t allow Iran and Hizbullah to establish a terrorist infrastructure on our border with Syria, and we will know to put our hands on all those who threaten citizens of Israel, along all our borders and even far from them.”
