Sources told the Canadian CBC news network that “to deal with some ongoing concerns around security, unaccompanied men seeking asylum will not be part of the program.”

Canada had pledged to take in 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of this year, according to Immigration Minister John McCallum.

The newly-elected Liberal government led by Prime Minister-elect Justin Trudeau had promised in the recent campaign that it would accept the refugees, but questions have emerged in the wake of the Paris terror attacks whether Canada has the ability to thoroughly screen the number of refugees it pledged to take in.

Two of the terrorists who carried out the Paris attacks had entered Europe posing as refugees.

Experts say the Canadian government has so far not been up front about its security screening process, which has screened about 100 asylum seekers per day.
