Putin tell spooks Russia arrested nearly 300 Western spies in 2014

On the even of the 15th anniversary of his rise to the Russian presidency, Vladimir Putin presided over a national security and intelligence conference in Moscow on March 26 and issued a dire warning to his spy chiefs.

Putin claimed that the West had been waging a massive political and information warfare offensive against Russia and had deployed a large number of spies to Russia to conduct sabotage and instigation to influence the results of the upcoming elections.

According to the state-run media giant Interfax, Putin said at the conference that in 2014 alone, Russia’s counter-intelligence organizations arrested more than 300 Western spies.
