The women, who resided near Hyesan University of the Arts in the northern Ryanggang Province, were arrested for recording a South Korean TV drama which is based on the true story of a North Korean dancer who defected to the South in the 1990s, according to a Radio Free Asia report.

The South Korean drama is said to include real-life depictions of North Korea and discusses the wide gap between the country’s wealthy and poor residents.

The Kim Jong-Un regime has insisted that it executes prisoners only in extreme cases. “The North claimed that it has handed down capital punishment in very limited cases, but it has carried out executions in cases of a wide range of crimes,” the UPI report said.

According to the report, two North Korean college students were executed in 2013 for watching South Korean pornography. Later that year, three more people were executed for trafficking methamphetamine.

Kim Jong-Un is said to have ordered the executions of at least 15 senior officials this year.
