Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued another challenge to U.S. global military influence by dispatching a large naval flotilla to the vehemently anti-American regime in Venezuela.
Thus far, a toughened stance toward the United States seems to be the main result of President Barack Obama’s U.S.-Russia “reset button” rapprochement.
Led by the missile cruiser Moskva, the Russian naval task force arrived at the Venezuela port of La Guaira on Aug. 27. The Moskva is the flagship of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. The flotilla also includes the Udaloy-class destroyer Vice Admiral Kulakov.
