North Korea’s young leader appears to have a popularity problem with the country’s young residents.

According to a report in the Daily NK, North Korean students “do not even consider Kim Jong-Un to be a real leader.”

The report said that previous generations of schoolchildren had looked at Pyongyang’s leaders as though they were gods. Thousands of tearful mourners turned out for Kim Jong-Il’s funeral in 2011.

But a source told the Daily NK that today’s students seemed indifferent toward Kim Jong-Un (said to be 32-years-old).

“The students giggle and sneer when they watch propaganda documentaries that brag that, at the tender age of 3, Kim Jong-Un was able to spell difficult words like Kwangmyeongseong Changa (‘hopeful paean’),” the source said.

“They also say things like: ‘I’d rather watch a home movie than this!’ ”

In March of 2014, male university students were said to be less than enthused when they were required to have their hair cut in the same style as the rotund leader.

“Our leader’s haircut is very particular, if you will. It doesn’t always go with everyone since everyone has different face and head shapes,” a source told the Korea Times.

The regime has taken a step to reverse the trend of the leader’s sinking popularity that schoolkids also may not take too kindly to. The BBC reported that Pyongyang has mandated an 81-hour, three-year course of study on the history of Kim Jong-Un.
