TEL AVIV — Israel’s military has determined that Hamas exhausted its supply of effective rockets.

The military has reported a sharp increase in the number of Hamas rockets that failed to land in Israel. Instead, many of the rockets, fired from around Gaza City and Khan Yunis, slammed into homes and farms in the Gaza Strip.

“The increase in rocket launch failures has been astounding,” a military source said.

On July 31, the military reported the launch of 140 rockets from the Gaza Strip. The military said 81 rockets struck Israel and 50 fell into the Gaza Strip.

The military did not cite a reason for the high percentage of Hamas rocket failures. Until July 30, the military reported that more than 10 percent Palestinian rocket launches fell in the Gaza Strip.

The source said the sharp increase in Hamas rocket failures reflected the depletion of its arsenal. They said Hamas has fired more than 70 percent of its missiles and rockets, particularly medium- and long-range weapons.
