They said two Palestinians were killed, including a local commander of Hamas’ military wing, Hamza Abu Haija.

“IOF [Israeli occupation force] soldiers encircled a house in which Hamza was entrenched along with other fighters and asked him to surrender,” Hamas said. “But he refused and exchanged fired with the soldiers.”

The sources said the 23-year-old Hamza was the son of Hamas military chief in the West Bank, Jamal Abu Haija, now in an Israeli prison.

The sources said the junior Abu Haija had been targeted several times by the Israeli military.

The Israeli military confirmed the killing of Abu Haija, said to have been directed by the Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip.

A military spokesman said Abu Haija was in the final stage of planning a major attack on Jewish communities in the West Bank.

“He was a ticking bomb,” Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Peter
Lerner said.
