China gets vulgar about White House meeting with Hong Kong leaders

Traveling to the U.S. to appeal to foreigners was a bad move made by Hong Kong’s pan-democracy advocates, China’s state media said in a series of rhetorical blasts against Martin Lee and Anson Chan.

The two prominent pro-democracy leaders met the U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden in the White House last week.

“They pissed but aimed incorrectly,” said the Communist Party Central Committee’s Global Time in an editorial published April 8.

At issue is the projected 2017 direct election of Hong Kong’s Chief Executive. Beijing opposes any pro-democracy candidate.

The Chief Executive has been chosen by a small Beijing-controlled coterie of business tycoons and politicians.
