Great Britain recently announced that it would re-establish a permanent military base in the Middle East.
The site will be Port Mina Salman in Bahrain where the U.S. Fifth Fleet has its headquarters.
The new base will cost the UK government $23 million to build, but most of the costs will be borne by the Bahraini government.
This move marks the establishment of the first British overseas Middle East military base since 1971 when the British withdrew its permanent military presence east of the Suez Canal.
