The Bahraini Cabinet approved a plan to end interference by the U.S.
ambassador to Manama, Thomas Krajeski. The Cabinet plan, which was not detailed, was submitted by parliament amid tension between Manama and Washington.

“The Cabinet has approved a proposal by the parliament to put an end to
the interference of U.S. ambassador Thomas Krajeski in Bahrain’s internal
affairs,” Bahraini Communications Minister Samira Rajab said.

In a statement on May 5, the Cabinet said the plan sought to end U.S.
attempts to foment unrest in Bahrain. The statement cited Krajeski’s
meetings with the Shi’ite opposition, which Manama has linked to Iran.

“The diplomatic measures Bahrain will take do not include dismissing the
envoy,” Ms. Rajab said. “We will commit to international agreements in
dealing with the U.S. ambassador.”

Manama has long complained of U.S. support with the Shi’ite opposition,
blamed for nightly attacks on security forces and foreign laborers. On April
25, Bahrain criticized the latest U.S. State Department human rights report,
which accused Manama of torturing detainees.
