The host of the CNN show was Howard Kurtz, who recently posted a correction to one of his own stories, over a month old, that he had mistakenly reported that he had interviewed Rep. Darrell Issa, when he had actually spoken to one of his aides. The correction has been called a “whopper” and the most embarrassing of his long career, which included decades at The Washington Post.
Fallows, a former Jimmy Carter speechwriter, wrote, after noting the “anti-JFK hate-rhetoric” in Dallas before Kennedy was killed, that: “We don’t know why the Tucson killer did what he did. If he is like Sirhan [Sirhan Sirhan, assassin of Robert F. Kennedy], we’ll never ‘understand.’ But we know that it has been a time of extreme, implicitly violent political rhetoric and imagery, including SarahPac’s famous bulls-eye map of 20 Congressional targets to be removed — including Rep. Giffords. It is legitimate to discuss whether there is a connection between that tone and actual outbursts of violence, whatever the motivations of this killer turn out to be.”
SarahPac refers to former Alaska Governor and 2008 GOP vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s political action committee.
The Weekly Standard called this “shameless,” noting that Fallows was suggesting that “47 years of liberal fantasies about Texas conservatism causing a Castro-sympathizer to kill JFK justified today’s unhinged liberal attacks on Palin!”
The same false comparison was made by Eric Boehlert of Media Matters, who claimed that “right-wing” hatred had something to do with Marxist Lee Harvey Oswald killing JFK. This is typical of the disinformation that emanates from the Soros-funded group.
Needless to say, there is absolutely no evidence that the bulls-eye on the SarahPAC map had anything to do with Arizona. Jared Loughner was a psychotic pothead. His main target, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, was a moderate Democrat who opposed decriminalization or legalization of marijuana.
In regard to the JFK murder, Fallows told Howard Kurtz of CNN: “…I lived in Texas for some while — for a long time, people in Dallas asked whether the very vitriolic anti-JFK tone before his assassination had anything to do with that event even though Lee Harvey Oswald was a communist and wasn’t part of that. So, too, we’ve been in a time of inflamed political rhetoric. It’s legitimate to ask.”
But if Oswald was a communist—and the evidence is overwhelming that he was — and had no link to the right-wingers criticizing JFK at the time, why is it legitimate to bring it up in connection with Arizona and Sarah Palin?
I am reminded of the line in the film Edge of Darkness, when a mysterious consultant to a group of conspirators says, in regard to covering their tracks, “That’s your objective, to make it so convoluted that anyone can have a theory, but no one’s got the facts.” The purpose, he said, was “making things unintelligible” so the truth is harder to find.
The truth in the Arizona case is quite simple. And if the media are interested in a pattern, there is one — both Loughner and John Patrick Bedell, the Pentagon shooter, were potheads whose psychosis was clearly aggravated by the drug. The dope lobby is in damage control over the real truth coming out and politicians putting the brakes on dispensing more pot to kids under the guise of “medical marijuana.”
British journalist Peter Hitchens comments: “The most likely cause [of Loughner’s mental illness and the rampage] is Loughner’s daily cannabis-smoking habit. The link between this drug and serious mental illness grows clearer every day. Wickedly, the dope lobby still tries to deny this and seeks to legalize it.”
To make matters worse, Fallows misrepresented the facts about Sirhan Sirhan. He wrote that “Sirhan Sirhan horribly transformed American politics by killing Robert F. Kennedy in 1968, but Sirhan’s political causes had little or nothing to do with what RFK stood for to most Americans.”
In fact, Sirhan Sirhan was a fanatical Palestinian who killed Robert F. Kennedy because Kennedy was a supporter of Israel. The assassination occurred on the first anniversary of the Six Day War in which Israel defeated the armies of its Arab neighbors. What’s more, Sirhan’s diaries include the repeated phrases “RFK must die” and “long live communism.”
Sirhan reportedly attended meetings of the Communist Party’s W.E.B. Dubois Clubs and one of his closest friends was Walter Crowe, a communist who told investigators after the assassination that he feared that he may have influenced Sirhan to kill Kennedy.
Isn’t that interesting? The killers of the Kennedy brothers were both Marxists. How many people know that?
You may know, if you have been following the story closely, that Obama associates Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, when they were in the Weather Underground, wrote a Prairie Fire Manifesto that includes a dedication in part to Sirhan Sirhan, listing him as a political prisoner. This led the University of Illinois and trustees Chairman Christopher Kennedy, son of RFK, to deny Ayers professor emeritus status after he retired.
Kennedy said: “There is nothing more antithetical to the hopes for a university that is lively and yet civil, or to the hopes of our founding fathers for their great experiment of a self-governing people, than to permanently seal off debate with one’s opponents by killing them. There can be no place in a democracy to celebrate political assassinations or to honor those who do so.”
When I asked Ayers about this at a “Green Festival” in Washington, D.C., Ayers told me that I was delusional. Once again, the facts speak for themselves.
This dedication can be explained by the fact that the assassination of RFK was indeed perceived as political in nature. The pro-communist left believed — and still does — that Israel was an imperialist lackey of the United States. Ayers and Dohrn continue to support the Palestinian war against Israel. The wall outside Ayers’ office at the University of Illinois featured a photograph of an “American-made missile” headed for a poor “Palestinian youth.”
The book, Eric-83: Patriot or Traitor? A Precursor to Modern Day Terrorism: Memoirs of a New York City Detective, tells the story of how Kennedy’s name was on a list of Americans targeted for assassination by communists and circulated to members of the Revolutionary Action Movement.
In his book, R.F.K. Must Die, Robert Blair Kaiser confirms this, noting that the Revolutionary Action Movement “had Robert Kennedy marked for execution.” The communists believed that Kennedy-style social change was too slow for the revolutionary process.
Months after he killed Kennedy, Sirhan said the blow had been struck for “his kind of people" — the “revolutionaries of the Third World,” Kaiser wrote.
But if Fallows were to bring any of that up, it might lead to questions about why Obama was associating with people like Ayers and Dohrn. And that is where our media draw the line at linking political figures to political violence. They have to protect Obama at any cost.
So this helps explain why conservatives were falsely blamed for the Arizona massacre. The left and its media allies must do everything possible to prevent the national conversation from returning to the issue of why President Obama once associated with terrorists who regarded the assassin of Robert F. Kennedy as a hero.
Their fear is that, once these relationships are covered in the detail that they deserve, the media might find some time to cover Obama’s Marxist mentoring by Communist Party member Frank Marshall Davis, who was so far to the left that he attacked Democratic icon and President Harry Truman. This story would then naturally lead to an understanding of who Obama really is and why the truth has been deliberately obscured.
