Qatar boosts energy ties with China

ABU DHABI — Qatar has decided to enhance energy cooperation with China.

Officials said Beijing and Doha would cooperate in crude oil and natural gas production over the next year.

They said the cooperation would include joint ventures in China, which has sought to expand its output.

"Both sides talked about planned joint venture projects in China between China National Petroleum Corp. and Qatar Petroleum," the Chinese government said in a statement on Jan. 13.

The cooperation agreement was reached during the recent visit by Qatari Energy Minister Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah to Beijing. Officials said Qatar has been negotiating a proposal to supply China with seven million tons of liquefied natural gas.
