Officials said unidentified assailants attacked a gas export station near El Arish in a explosion that damaged nearby homes. They said the attackers bombed the facility at Al Maidan on Sept. 27 and suspended operations of the Arab Gas Pipeline, which supplies neighboring Israel and Jordan.

This marked the sixth bombing of the pipeline in 2011, the first since July.

Officials said the attacks were believed to have been conducted by Bedouins aligned with Al Qaida.

Egypt has been negotiating with both Israel and Jordan to significantly increase the price of gas. Officials said the bombings have shut down the pipeline — operated by the state-owned Gasco, for nearly half of this year.
