Officials said unidentified assailants attacked a gas export station
near El Arish in a explosion that damaged nearby homes. They said the
attackers bombed the facility at Al Maidan on Sept. 27 and suspended
operations of the Arab Gas Pipeline, which supplies neighboring Israel and
Jordan.
This marked the sixth bombing of the pipeline in 2011, the
first since July.

Officials said the attacks were believed to have been
conducted by Bedouins aligned with Al Qaida.
Egypt has been negotiating with both Israel and Jordan to significantly
increase the price of gas. Officials said the bombings have shut down the
pipeline — operated by the state-owned Gasco, for nearly half of this year.
