Security sources said Egyptian security forces have been stopping shipments of cement from the Sinai Peninsula to the Gaza Strip. They said 20 tons of cement were seized near the 14-kilometer Gaza-Sinai border. "The cement was meant to be transported through the tunnels," a security source said.
Security forces were said to have confiscated 430 bags of cement in mid-July. The sources said the smugglers fled and nobody was arrested.

The order came amid increasing dissatisfaction by Israel over Egypt's efforts to prevent arms and other smuggling to the Gaza Strip. Israel was said to have been concerned that the Hamas regime was seeking to build military fortifications in the Gaza Strip to prepare for war with the Jewish state.
The Egyptian security sources said a tunnel meant for the latest cement ship was identified and would be sealed. They said the cement would be sold at an auction.
