Iran's 'blatant interference' in Bahrain spurs Gulf defense federation
ABU DHABI — The Gulf Cooperation Council has drafted a plan to form a defense federation to counter the threat from neighboring Iran.
GCC sources said the six-member Gulf Arab organization was examining the prospect of becoming a federation that would have a common defense, foreign and security policy. They said each of the six states would remain sovereign and continue domestic policy as well as in the areas of economy and energy.
