White House defends limited Taiwan arms package; China criticizes sale, regardless

U.S. officials last week defended the decision to sell a new arms package to Taiwan worth an estimated $5.8 billion as robust and bolstering the island's flagging military despite the absence of 66 new F-16 C/D jets sought by both Taiwan and its supporters in Congress.
