Japan last week was the latest international victim of a cyber attack as unidentified attackers, suspected of originating in China, targeted data on missiles, submarines and nuclear power plants. The attack came in the form of spear-phishing — the most prevalent and successful type of cyber attacks — in which dispatched messages carried or led to the planting of malicious code in more than 80 servers.
