Israel projects energy independence thanks to natural gas fields
TEL AVIV — Israel was expected to end energy dependence over the
next five years.
A U.S. energy company said its natural gas exploration project could
result in the end of Israeli dependence on foreign energy suppliers.
Noble Energy has been developing the Tamar gas field in the eastern Mediterranean
Sea, expected to begin production in 2012, Middle East Newsline reported.

"It's significant to Israel and what it can do for this country in terms
of lowering energy costs," Noble chief executive officer Charles Davidson
said.
Davidson said Tamar would drill wells that would provide Israel
with a total of 750 million cubic feet of gas per day.
He said this could fulfill Israel's energy needs and even lead to gas exports.
