After classified briefing, Bond registers 'strong opposition' to START
Sen. Christopher Bond said in a floor statement Nov. 18 that the New START treaty is flawed and not in the U.S. national security interest because its provisions cannot be reliably verified to prevent Russian cheating.
Bond's opposition followed an earlier statement by Sen. Jon Kyl, the No. 3 Republican senator, who called on Democrats to put off ratification debate during the lame duck session because of concerns that the treaty will limit U.S. strategic nuclear modernization programs, U.S. missile defenses and new conventional long-range strike capabilities.
