Turkey sets terms for accepting THAAD as NATO's counter to Iran

WASHINGTON — A leading American missile defense lobbyist said Turkey could receive the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) from the United States as part of NATO's missile defense shield. Turkey has approved the deployment of U.S. missile defense systems. But the government of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan has demanded that NATO remove all references to a ballistic missile threat by either Iran or Syria and deny data to non-alliance states, such as Israel.
