Oman reports sharp rise in oil exports to Asia

ABU DHABI — Oman has reported a sharp increase in crude oil exports in 2009.

The Gulf Cooperation Council sultanate reversed a long decline in crude oil exports. China, South Korea and Thailand were identified as the largest importers of Omani oil.

During the first four months of this year, crude oil exports rose by 10.8 percent.

Crude production was reported to have increased by 5.8 percent to 786,100 barrels per day, compared to 743,300 barrels during the same period in 2008. This reversed a steady production decline during most of the last decade.

Officials said the Energy Ministry plans to increase crude oil production to 810,000 barrels per day in 2009. In 2008, daily crude output averaged 790,000 barrels, an increase from 710,000 barrels in 2007.
