Republicans press Obama to embargo oil to Iran

WASHINGTON Ñ President Barack Obama is coming under increasing pressure to impose new energy sanctions on Iran.

The Republican minority in Congress has urged Obama to order an embargo on gasoline sales to Iran.

House Republican Leader John Boehner said such an embargo would have an immediate impact on the Teheran regime amid its crackdown on student protesters.

"It would have an immediate impact on this regime's horrible record," Boehner said.

Iran was said to be receive 75 percent of its gasoline supplies from neighboring United Arab Emirates. France, India and Turkey were also said to export gasoline to Iran.
